Hydrofluoric Acid ACS has a number of industrial applications. It is used in the production of aluminum, fluorocarbons, and for the pickling of stainless steel. It also performs in etching glass, gasoline production, in processing uranium, and in acidizing oil wells. Used in liquid form, it is very soluble in water. It is highly dangerous and toxic, earning a hazard rating of eight. It is fatal if swallowed and can be fatal if inhaled or if it comes in contact with the skin. It can cause serious eye damage and severe burns. If swallowed, the poison center or a doctor must be contacted immediately. If it comes into contact with the skin or hair, the subject is advised to remove contaminated clothing and rinse the affected area completely with water. Contact with the eye must involve continued rinsing and specific treatment as advised on the product label. The product should be stored in a locked container. The container and its contents should only be disposed of by following local, national, and international regulations.
