The chemical sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4) is derived from the mineral sodium, or natural salt. In the agricultural industry, this chemical is used to make fertilizer, especially on vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli. Also, it is used as cattle feed to treat animals with copper deficiencies. Nonetheless, caution should be exercised, because Na2MoO4 can create copper deficiencies in cattle, at a concentration of 0.3 ppm. Due to its use on the foods you eat, small quantities of Na2MoO4 might be present in the food chain. The human body can be affected in various ways by this chemical, but its' total effects are not known entirely. Na2MoO4 is not compatible with the majority of common metals, oxidizing agents or alkali metals. If it contacts molten magnesium it will explode, and it reacts violently with interhalogens (such as chlorine trifluoride and bromine pentafluoride). Furthermore, it reacts in an incandescent way to hot sodium, lithium or potassium.
